Spooky Rice Krispies Bats

For spooky season it’s absolutely imperative to have treats. Some fun treats that are super easy to make at home are Rice Krispies bat treats! All you need is some Rice Krispies treats, a bat cookie cutter, frosting, and some sprinkle decorations.

To start out you can either make your own Rice Krispies treats or do as I did and buy a box of premade ones. They were basically the perfect size for my bat cookie cutter and I don’t like dealing with stirring marshmallow so I made my choice.

First, I unwrapped them of course. Then I took a rolling pin and flattened them out enough to fit my cookie cutter. I pressed the bat cookie cutter down and cleared around the sides. (If you have scraps you can also just press it into the cutter to not waste any!)

Carefully push the little shaped treat out of the cutter and repeat until you have the number you want. Now they’re ready to decorate!

(I, unwisely, decided to make my bats green. I didn’t really have a reason. But once I made them I realized that they looked like Baby Yoda so I switched to purple. You can choose any color!) You mix up some frosting with the color you want for your bat and then you’re ready.

To start decorating you first start with the body. You frost JUST the body and then either press sprinkle decorations onto it or press it into a bowl filled with sprinkles. They will stick and make the body stand out. Then you frost the little head and wings, as smoothly as you can manage.

Now you can give your little creature of the night a face! I used a small tube of black frosting and piped on a little smiling face. I decided to make mine friendly, but they can have whatever expression you want!

Once they’re all done they are ready to be devoured! This is an easy treat to do with kids as well, if you don’t mind being a bit messy. I am by no means a professional when it comes to frosting and decorating treats but I think they are still cute.
