“What’s your favorite scary movie?” Horror fans everywhere will love these blood splatter slasher themed ornaments.
I got a ton of blank wood ornaments. They’re often very affordable and can be used for so many projects.
For these ornaments I used decals to make the designs. You can absolutely paint these but it takes a lot longer and you won’t have the uniform design that I wanted as I was giving these as gifts in sets. The first step with the decals is choosing the color that will go under them, basically what color the design will be. I started with a black background to go under the decals.
Once the paint was fully dry I carefully placed the decal where I wanted it to be, centered. I had four designs of four iconic slasher villains: Michael Myers, Jason, Ghost Face, and Freddy. (I got them on Etsy.)
Now you paint on top of your decal, covering it. I used white for this top coat. As you can see, I made a lot of them!
I have only made blood splatters a few times in the past, so I decided it was a perfect time to experiment. There are many ways to get the blood splatter effect. I used a few different techniques and put them together. (Make sure you use a box or something of that sort to avoid getting the paint everywhere.) First, I drizzled the blood red paint out of bottle with a small nozzle. I used a toothpick to spread out the bigger drops. Then I took a straw and blew gently on some to make them spread out. I drizzled some more and used a toothpick again to spread them out. Keep going until you’re happy. Watch this video to see my process.
Once I practiced a bit I was ready to work on the actual ornaments. I put them all in a box and made them in batches.
I was extremely happy with the result.
Now the hardest part for me, removing the decals. I used a toothpick to get the edges up and then peeled the decal away. It was tedious, especially with the volume I was working with.
However, it was completely worth it.
The final step was painting the top black. Now they can be hung up as an awesome decoration, perfect for any horror fan.
