Pokémon Pom-Pom Ornaments

If you’re looking for an easy and fun ornament idea and love Pokémon, this craft is perfect!

For this ornament you are going to need the empty ornament, pom-pom balls, puffy paint, and a reference picture.  I think this works great for Pokémon because they often are one main color and have pretty easy to draw faces.  It might take a bit of practice but the result is worth it. Plus, there are so many to pick from.

Starting with empty ornaments, I found the flat back ones are ideal for this. You use the flat side for the face, so you aren’t painting on a curve.

Don’t forget the pom-poms!  You can get a variety pack of colors if you need a lot or just buy the specific color you are looking for.  I had a variety pack already so I just put them in a big bowl and picked out the colors I needed.

I went classic and picked Pikachu for starters, then I had a lot of purple so why not give Gengar a try?  The easy part comes first, you just stuff the pom-poms of the appropriate color into the empty ornament.  You can shake them around in there and use different sizes to make it more interesting if you have the option.  I filled Pikachu with yellow and Gengar with purple.

Now the hard part, painting on the face!  First I found reference pictures and printed them out.  I used fabric puffy paint with the fine tips to make it easier to paint on the face. (It turns out both their faces use the same three colors!)

I decided to just go for it, but I advise a little practice first on a piece of paper.  The nice thing about this kind of paint is that before it dries you can wipe it off with a wet paper towel and start over.  Just make sure the surface is dry before you start.

My faces didn’t turn out perfectly, but I think they’re pretty cute!
