Calico Cat Cookies

If you love cats, or just want a warm snuggle, a wonderful place to go is a cat café. A cat café is a magical place where you can have café snacks and drinks while you cuddle with a room full of cats and/or kittens!

I found a game a while ago that is one of my all-time favorites, Calico. (Obviously a perfect game for me!) You run a cat café, and who doesn’t want to run a cat café?! There are many treats you can make in the game, so why not make one in real life? This also makes a great kid baking craft!

Here are some treats in the game, just a few examples of future recipe ideas to explore for my dream cat café.

So, let’s make some calico cat cookies!

For type of cookie dough, you have options, one clearly being sugar cookies. However, I don’t get the chance to have Spritz cookies very often, so I’m going to make those again. This is the same recipe from Betty Crocker as my Cylon Raider Cookies! If you want to make sugar cookies, I always use a mix, like my Spooky Sugar Cookies, but there are tons of recipes online!

Spritz Cookies:

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup sugar

2 1/4 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1/4 teaspoon almond or vanila extract

You will also need:

Food coloring

Dough Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2. Cream softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl.

3. Stir in flour, egg, almond or vanilla extract

Now you have your dough, it’s time to dye. I’m making calico cats, of course, so I’m going to need plain, orange, and as close to black as I feel happy with.

To make orange you need to add red and yellow together, and then keep adding more yellow until it’s the shade you want.

For black you mix green, red, and blue in equal parts. Then you mix in green and red until you, again, get a shade you’re happy with. (With food coloring, I play it by ear and just do a drop at a time and fully mix before adding more until it's correct.)

Now it’s time to roll out the dough! Start with the plain dough then take some pinches or dollops of each color in random spots. Roll that all together, don’t forget to flour the roller.

Time to cut the cookies, I found some cat shapes on Amazon that I adore.

Now cut out the cookies in spots where you like the pattern.

To bake, parchment paper is your friend!! Lay out the cookies on a baking sheet carefully and get ready to put them in the oven.

Bake for 5-8 minutes, try not to let them get brown. Once they’re out let them cool for about 10 minutes. Feel free to decorate if you want, depending on what your cookie cutters look like. You could add bows, collars, faces, anything!

Finally the best part, eat them!
